Final year student disqualified for driving with no insurance

A Lithuanian man who is in his final year studying in GMIT was disqualified from driving for a year and fined €600 for driving without insurance at Castlebar District Court this week.

Garda John Monaghan told the court that he stopped a car being driven by Ignes Jaunekia, 8 Dalton House, The Meadows, Ballybrit, Co Galway, at College Green, Killbeg, Claremorris, on October 30 2012. The tax had expired on the car and Garda Monaghan demanded the production of Jaunekia’s driving licence and certificate of insurance within 10 days. Jaunekia admitted at the scene he had no insurance, Garda Monaghan told the court.

Jaunekia pleaded guilty in court to the charges of having no insurance and was convicted and fined €600 and disqualified from driving for one year.
