The 156th anniversary commemoration of the death of Admiral William Brown will take place on March 2 in his birthplace of Foxford.
The ceremonies will get under way with the celebration of Mass in Saint Michael’s Church, Chapel Road, at 12 noon, followed by the laying of wreaths and speeches.
The Irish Naval Service, in association with the Admiral Brown Society, and Mayo County Council, will present the inaugural Admiral William Brown/JJ O’Hara perpetual trophy for the Junior Naval Leader of the Year to the deserving recipient.
It is envisaged that this award will be presented annually in Foxford as part of the anniversary commemoration of the death of Admiral Brown.
