Disqualified driver collected his wife and daughter from night out

A man who was two months away from his driving disqualification coming to an end was detected driving after he collected his wife and daughter from a country and western night.

Eamonn Callaghan, The Boreen, Crossmolina was observed by Sergeant James Murphy driving on October 8 2012 at 2.45am at Massbrook South. Sergeant Murphy was aware that Callaghan was disqualified from driving and turned the patrol car to follow him, however he lost the defendant. The gardaí called to Callaghan’s home on a couple of occasions and eventually located him.

The court heard that the 60-year-old farmer “stupidly” collected his daughter and wife home from a night out in Claremorris.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €1,000 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
