Egg throwing student from Mayo has been reprimanded

A student from Mayo is one of three UCD students who have been formally reprimanded after they threw eggs at An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, during his visit to UCD’s new student centre in November last year.

The eggs did not hit the Taoiseach but UCD's vice president for students Martin Butler was caught in the crossfire.

Aidan Rowe (22 ) from Mayo, Suzanne Lee (23 ) from Belfast, and Ben McCormack (24 ) from England were brought before a university preliminary disciplinary hearing on Wednesday afternoon.

All three were issued with a suspended fine and will have to write a letter of apology to Mr Butler.

The students had been protesting in relation to the increase in student fees and cuts in student grants.
