Mayo heart patients get moving with new Croí programme

Local heart and stroke charity Croí has launched an innovative community-based exercise programme for cardiac patients in Mayo. Piloted during recent months, the Croí Heart Health and Fitness Programme is proving to be an exciting new venture which clearly benefits patients who have been diagnosed with cardiac conditions or who have undergone cardiac surgery.

Based in Balla, this initiative is being co-ordinated by Croí in association with the Mayo Action on Heart Disease and Stroke programme and is supported by the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department in Mayo General Hospital.

The Croí Heart Health and Fitness Programme is a six-week course, which consists of a one-hour circuit based exercise session, designed specifically for cardiac patients. This programme aims to promote long-term physical activity among cardiac patients who have been discharged from the hospital cardiac rehabilitation service.

Referrals to the programme are currently being received from the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at Mayo General Hospital and through GP referral.
