The most recent swimming gala took place in the Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Tuam where seven young swimmers represented Ballina Dolphins Swimming Club.
Lilla Frank had two great swims competing in the 100m backstroke improving by three seconds on her division two time, coming fourth in her age group. Her next swim was the 100m freestyle in which she not only improved on her division two time but took home a gold medal for her achievement. Heather McGowan had two powerful swims, the 100m backstroke and the 100m freestyle, which saw her improving by three seconds in backstroke and two seconds in freestyle, achieving division two times in both her swims.
Amy McGowan took part in the 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke, achieving personal best times. Emily Ward’s first swim was the 100m backstroke, where she cut four seconds off her previous time. She then competed in the 100m freestyle improving her time by two seconds. Kirsty Quinn and Leah Lynn also took part in the 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke, putting up a great fight, achieving good times. Seán Canavan was the only boy representing Ballina Dolphins Swimming Club on the day. He competed in three swims, the 400m freestyle, the 100m butterfly, and the 100m freestyle, putting up great fight in all, achieving personal best times.
