Close contest at the top of the Winter Leagues

In last weekend’s men’s stableford competition, Tom Jennings was the winner with a score of 35pts after a very tight finish. Martin Moylette finished second with Mick Mellett in third place. In the ladies’ competition, Marie Flanagan was the winner on 33pts, with Pat Dillon in second place and Geraldine O’Malley in third. After seven rounds of the Winter League, Jimmy Sheridan and Breege Moran are out in front on a score of 308pts. John Parsons and Carmel Henry are in second place on 303pts, with John O’Connor and Nora Gibbons in third spot on 300pts.

Castlebar

Round six of the winter league sponsored by Cox’s Bar and Restaurant was played last weekend and the team of Dom Molloy, Ioseph McGowan, Pat Moran and Tony Grimes took the honours on the day with 78pts. Two teams were tied on 75pts and after a count-back the team of Pat Ryan, Kevin Leonard, Darren Greaney and John Waldron were declared second while the team of Greg Barry, Jimmy Walsh, Damian Burke and Kieran Horkan were third.

Round seven will take place over this coming weekend.

There was a 13 hole stableford competition for Ladies played over last weekend and despite the dreadful weather a large number braved the conditions to enter! The winner with a fine score of 28pts was Joan Rowland.

Gina Kelly was second with 25pts while a count-back was required to separate Lorna Irwin and Pauline O'Donohue who were tied on 24pts. Lorna was awarded third having a better back nine while Pauline was fourth. The club holding a big table quiz on Friday, February 8. The quiz starts at 8pm with multiple rounds, including general knowledge, music, entertainment, films, sports and people. There will be a lot of fun and several spot prizes. Tables can be made up of max five people with entry just €10 per person. All are welcome.

Mulranny

Despite the inclement weather conditions experienced over the past weekend, the Mulranny open competition went ahead with Jack Healy coming out on top with a fine score of 38pts. In second place was last week’s winner, Gabriel Dockery on 35pts. The open weekends will continue until the end of February and you may continue to play on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. If you intend playing on Saturday, you should avoid the times between 9am. and 10.30am as there is a Society booking. Members are reminded that to avail of complimentary green fees, membership must be paid by this Sunday, February 2 .
