Funding boost for Mayo farmers - Carty

Mayo farmers will receive a funding boost as balancing payments under the 2008 Single Farm Payment were due to be issued, according to Fianna Fáil Senator and Government Spokesperson for Agriculture in Seanad Eireann, John Carty.

“The Minister for Agriculture, Brendan Smith TD, secured approval from the European Commissioner Fisher Boel to make advance payments under the Single Farm Payment Scheme from October 16 to reflect the hardship being faced by Irish farmers due to bad weather this year,” said Sen Carty.

“Now the balancing payment is being given to some 10,795 farmers in Mayo. The balancing payments for Mayo total €28,847,000 and this brings total payments to Mayo farmers to some €56.5 million overall for this year. I know that many farmers will welcome the speedy payment of these funds,” concluded Sen Carty.
