St Anne’s Boxing club held a very successful tournament in the Peter Callaghan Centre last Saturday night, January 12, winning 10 of the 16 contests on the bill. The female bout between Ellen McDonagh (St Anne’s ) and Rosie Conway (Geesala ) was awarded the best contest of the evening and Liam McStravick (St Anne’s ) received the award for the best boxer of the night.
Joey Corcoran (St Anne’s ) lost to Patrick McDonagh (Geesala ) in the 39kg boy one bout, while Owen McMananom (St Anne’s ) defeated Cain O’Reilly (Ballyhaunis ) in the 48kg boy one contest.
Cain McAllister (St Anne’s ) defeated Shea Pye (Knockmore ) in the boy two 29kg bout and Ellen MacDonagh (St Anne’s ) defeated Rosie Conway (Geesala ) winning the girl two 44kg contest. Ryan Hearty (St Anne’s ) defeated Jack Murphy (Ballinrobe ) in the boy two 44kg event, and Casper Buru (St Anne’s ) lost to Cathal Griffin (Connemara ) in the boy three 66kg contest. In the girl four 42kg contest Shannon Sweeney (St Anne’s ) defeated Aoife King (Castlebar ), and Daniel McDonagh (St Anne’s ) defeated Martin Corcoran (Champs Camp ) in the boy four 48kg bout. The final two boy grade bouts saw Martin Collins (St Anne’s ) defeat James Carolan (Geesala ) in the boy four 50kg event, and Frank Carr (St Anne’s ) lost to Marcus Otiete (Champs Camp ) in the boy four 75kg contest.
James Brennan (St Anne’s ) defeated Dean Loftus (Ardagh/Crossmolina ) in the youths’ one 44kg contest and Liam McStravick (St Anne’s ) defeat Jason Ward (Champs Camp ) in the youth two 52kg contest. James Daly (St Anne’s ) defeated Keith Hopkins (Ardagh/Crossmolina ) in the 70kg youth two contest with Thomas McDonagh (St Anne’s ) losing to Sean Conroy in the youth two 80kg clash.
Castlebar share the spoils in Breaffy event
Castlebar Boxing Club shared the spoils in their tournament last Sunday afternoon in Breaffy GAA Sports Complex, winning eight of the 16 contests on the programme. The host club won five of the first seven bouts, with four of them coming in succession.
The full results on the night saw Alex Maughan (Castlebar ) lose to Dillon McDonagh (Claremorris ), David Livingstone (Castlebar ) lose to Martin Corcoran (Olympic ). Padraig McDonagh (Geesala ) defeated Johnny Myers (Olympic ), Thomas Sweeney (Castlebar ) defeated Michael Conroy (Ballyhaunis ), Kirsten Cresham (Castlebar ) defeated Jessica Connolly (Castlerea ). Willie Joe McHale (Castlebar ) defeated Martin McDonagh (Ballina ), and Gavin Roche (Castlebar ) lost to Matthew McDonagh (Geesala ). Ryan McDonnell (Castlebar ) defeated Shane Mc Donnell (Swinford ), and Grainne Gavin (Castlebar ) defeated Elaine Daly (Ballyhaunis ).
Aaron Daly (Castlebar ) lost to James Brennan (Swinford ) and Eamon Kelly (Castlebar ) defeated Daniel McDonagh (St Anne’s ) while Colm Quinn (Castlebar ) lost to James Cleary (Olympic ) after he retired in round two.
Eamonn Maughan (Castlebar ) lost to Michael Delaney (Olympic ) with Stephen Chambers (Castlebar ) losing to Martin A Collins (Ballina ), and Stephen Barrett (Castlebar ) defeated Jordan Quinn (Castlerea ). In the final bout of the evening Ben Garrett (Castlebar ) lost to Pat Mongan (Olympic ).
