Spanish-born painter Carmen Garcia is exhibiting for the second time at the Clew Bay Hotel for the month of December with the opening reception of her exhibition taking place tonight (Friday December 5 ) at 8.30pm.
Having no formal training and only picking up a paintbrush for the first time a few years ago, the Westport-based painter has a remarkable talent which enables her to use watercolours and textured canvas in her own innovative and unique manner, with no restrictions or loyalty to the traditional use of those materials. Her bold, rich and often layered works capture a very simple image, a scene that would ordinarily be nothing more than a brief snapshot of life in all of its everyday banality. Yet through the artist’s intuitive sensibilities, they are filled with the very real and often raw human emotions taken from across the spectrum of what we ourselves experience in some way every moment of daily life.
Carmen describes her paintings as from the heart and from the soul with each work focusing on a particular feeling or emotion which creates an evocative, lasting and almost magical ability to transport people through time and space to one moment or snapshot in their memory, once forgotten but now remembered vividly.
Westport Town Councillor Tereasa McGuire will open the exhibition so call along for a glass of wine and experience the emotive art for yourself. Contact the Clew Bay Hotel on 098 28088 for more information.
