A 62-year-old grandmother who belted a security guard in the head was before Castlebar District Court this week.
A security officer from Dunnes Castlebar was hit a number of times in the head by Mary McDonagh, 56 An Sruthan, Castlebar, after he tried to detain a person who was with McDonagh. He received slight bruising from the incident.
McDonagh, a mother of 18 and grandmother to 57, got involved when her granddaughter was stopped outside the shop.
The court heard that McDonagh, who is in a poor state of health, has not returned to Dunnes since the incident.
Judge Denis McLoughlin convicted and sentenced her to two months in prison, suspended for 12 months.
