Local cancer support centre appointed to Irish Cancer Society’s National Networking Committee

The Mayo Cancer Support Association, Castlebar, has been elected to the National Networking Committee of the Irish Cancer Society’s Cancer Support Affiliation Programme for the West/Northwest region. The committee, which held its inaugural meeting in the Irish Cancer Society’s offices in Dublin on December 6, will guide the direction of the society’s affiliation programme which sees it support 48 community based cancer support services across the country.

The main focus of the programme is to ensure the highest possible standard of practice through the delivery of its first rate training and coaching programme in local cancer support centres for cancer support services staff, volunteers and board. It also provides psycho-social care for cancer patients and their families by supporting professional counselling services in their own communities.
