Good attendance at Achieving Success in Sport seminar

Some 200 people attended the Achieving Success in Sport seminar which was held in Breaffy House Hotel in Castlebar.

Sonia O’Sullivan, who spoke at the seminar, said that self motivation, good friends and a liking for the taste of success were part of her winning formula. “Once you get that taste you want more. You know what it takes to achieve things but you will do anything to get back to it.” She also said that aspiring athletes had to surround themselves with a good team – not just a team to look after physical and mental needs – but friends and “people who know whether you’re having a good day or not.”

Gavin Duffy, Connacht Rugby captain, Mayo star Aidan O’Shea, and Sligo Rovers goalkeeper Ciaran Kelly also spoke at the seminar.

The seminar was one of the key Mayo events during the Western Region Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week, which took place from November 12 to 16. The event was organised by the Mayo Sports Partnership in association with the Western Region Drugs Task Force, Mayo County Development Board, and South West Mayo Development Company.
