Assessment of housing needs to take place next year

Mayo County Council will be carrying out a “statutory assessment of housing needs” next year for the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government. Director of Services for Mayo County Council, Martin Keating, informed the members of the Housing Strategic Policy Committee of Mayo County Council of this assessment at their November meeting this week.

Mr Keating told the members that this assessment of “demand for social housing support” would be used as the base line for the Department when it came to consideration for funding for different projects and schemes in each county over the next number of years. He went on to explain that all applicants on the council’s current housing list would be contacted between January 2013 and April 2013 as part of the process and that information would be used for the assessment, which would determine the need for rental units, leased units, and casual vacancies in the council’s stock over the next number of years.
