Due to the success of last year’s event and given the current economic climate whereby carers are experiencing cuts to their services, The Carers Association and The Mayo Volunteer Centre are organising a day for carers entitled: “Appreciating Mayo’s Hidden Treasures: Family Carers”.
The day is organised for December 4 in Breaffy House Hotel from 11am to 3pm. The day will be organised as an open day where carers can go in/out at their leisure and resource whatever area they need. The various areas being organised include information from local agencies and disease/illness organisations, vendors for home care suppliers, health check area, established support groups, pamper corner, information on training supports, meet and chat area with tea/coffee/ mulled wine/mince pies.
This year the association is introducing the following features: “Thank you” tree where individuals can write a message of thanks to a carer and hang it on the tree, speakers addressing the importance of carers looking after themselves as well as physical and nutritional information, mental health information and supports available, stress management, community action on dementia.
