National Men’s Shed president John Evoy is to visit Castlebar on Thursday December 6, to meet the members of the Mayo Men’s Shed groups and hear of the progress of the Men’s Shed activity around the county. The gathering will be held in the GMIT at 8pm and a large attendance is expected from Ballina, Castlebar, Belmullet, and Ballinrobe groups
The members of Castlebar Men’s Shed group are very busy and active with a number of winter and Christmas projects; including a lovely selection of handcrafted Christmas Cribs, constructed with natural wood with a lovely straw thatch roof.
The Christmas tree scene is also catered for with a special blacksmith hand-tooled iron Christmas tree stand, all of which are available for purchase at the Men’s Shed workshop at Moneen Enterprise Centre, near Mulroy’s Supermarket.
The winter warmth is also catered for with a Men’s Shed bags of tinder wood sticks, a value bag of timber fire starters. This wood-tinder fire-starter project has an environmental input, as the wood-tinder is gathered from recycled wood of unwanted timber pallets, fragmented by a Men’s Shed workshop built machine. All the funds from those sales are going to support the Castlebar Men’s Shed development funds.
Work on an old antique tractor is another new activity for members of the Castlebar Men’s Shed, the tractor was acquired recently and now is programmed for a work project to be taken on by a number of the members, to rebuild and repair the tractor to its former glory. The members’ target is to have their reconditioned tractor on display at some of the Mayo antiques tractor shows, during 2013 season.
