A Ballina man who punched his cousin in the nose in Supermac’s, Ballina, was convicted at Ballina District Court this week for assault.
At a previous court sitting it was head that on July 18 2011, Michael Durkin who works in the kitchen of Supermac’s was assisting in breaking up a fight in the restaurant when he was punched in the nose by a person not involved in the fight. The person who hit him, and who was later identified on CCTV, was his cousin Ciaran Durkan, Cullane, Ballina.
It was outlined that there is bad blood between the two families.
Judge Mary Devins adjourned the case for six months for sentencing to November 27 2012.
At this week’s court it was heard that compensation and a letter of apology have been furnished.
Judge Devins convicted and fined Durkan €500.
