Sixteen Days of Action Opposing Violence Against Women

The International 16 Days Opposing Violence Against Women runs from November 25 (which is UN Day Opposing Violence Against Women ), to December 10 (which is Human Rights Day ).

This year marks the 22nd year of the global 16 Days of Action Opposing Violence against Women. In 2012, more than 4,000 organisations from 172 countries participated worldwide.

Mayo Women’s Support Services in collaboration with Mayo Rape Crisis Centre will host a number of awareness raising events throughout the 16 day campaign.

One event taking place during the 16 days include a lilies ritual, which will be held in Castlebar at 12.45pm at Lough Lannagh on Monday December 10. This ritual will commemorate the women who have lost their lives, women who are missing, women who are subject to rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse, women who are trafficked and forced into prostitution.
