Ballina’s Spar Spartan completes her journey and the Dublin City Marathon

Ballina woman Siobhan Timoney-Clarke, the Mayo representative in the Spar Spartan Challenge, completed her challenge by running the Dublin City Marathon in October.

Timoney-Clarke completed the marathon in a time of 4:02:11 despite being plagued by injury which prevented her from running for four weeks. But thanks to the help of her physio she was able to participate and in the process raised €1,100 for her chosen charity the 3ts (turn the tide of suicide ).

Timoney-Clarke told the Mayo Advertiser she will never forget the kind words and thoughtfulness of everybody, near and far, which kept her positive throughout her journey.

“This challenge is only the beginning for me and I hope to participate in another marathon in the future,” she said. “Completing the marathon was a dream come true and I want to thank all those who made it possible, without their support it could not have happened for me. I would like to thank Spar and Karl Henry, Paula Mee and all the other Spartans for this once in a life time experience and I would encourage anyone next year to put themselves forward to be the Mayo Spartan representative.”
