The owner of a lorry which was overweight by 8,700kg was before Castlebar District Court this week for exceeding the maximum load which is permitted to be carried.
Garda John Flanagan stopped a lorry on June 22 2012 at Knockcroghery, Castlebar. The lorry was brought to the weighing bridge in the council yard and weighed.
The owner of the vehicle was Michael Keaveney, Turlough, Castlebar.
The court heard that the owner has since purchased weighing equipment which has cost him €100,000.
