Foxford Youth Cafe receives government grant

At a time when a lot of attention has been given to the issue of suicide and young people, cyber bullying and the societal stresses that are placed on teenagers, a good news story for the young people in Foxford has emerged.

A grant of €74,000 towards the Foxford Youth Cafe which will be based in the Foxford Sports and Leisure Centre, has been granted by the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Frances Fitzgerald.

This money is an investment in the youth of Foxford and surrounding areas and will support the great work being done for young people in the area.

The news has been welcomed by Minister of State Michael Ring who said: “Youth cafes offer young people a place to meet in safe drug and alcohol free environments.”

Deputy John O’Mahony also welcomed the announcement adding: “I think what’s particularly good about the youth cafe and the way it organises its affairs is that it hands over a lot of responsibility to the young people themselves and gives them quite a bit of ownership. That creates confidence among the young people and it allows them develop as young adults.”
