€1.8 million renal dialysis unit for Mayo General

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has announced that Mayo General Hospital is to receive a renal dialysis unit at a cost of €1.8 million. This permanent unit will have the capacity to meet the needs of all County Mayo patients currently requiring dialysis and is expected to be completed in six months. The unit will also meet the expected demand for dialysis in the county over the medium term.

The Taoiseach said: “This is excellent news for the people of Mayo and clearly demonstrates the Government's continued commitment to their health and wellbeing. This new unit will be really state of the art and will go a long way in terms of facilitating the treatment of the county's dialysis patients.

“I understand that the infrastructural work on the temporary renal dialysis unit in St Mary’s HQ has now been completed and the unit is being snagged at present. Dialysis patients will soon be relocated to the temporary unit with work commencing on the permanent unit by the end of November. The permanent unit should then be completed in six months.”
