Applications sought for recording and amateur drama grants

Mayo County Council is currently taking applications for two arts grants, the Music Recording Assistance Award and the Amateur Drama Award. The recording grant was established to support the recording of original music by musicians living in Mayo. The recipients of this award will receive up to €800 towards an original music recording. There will be up to a maximum of two awards made in 2012, and the amount awarded will be decided by an independent expert assessment panel.

The award is for new recordings only. No completed and packaged CDs can be funded. Only work in progress will be considered. Applications will be assessed by an independent and impartial panel of music industry professionals. The award is open to all forms of music. Musicians must be resident in County Mayo.

To apply, send a written application outlining what the money would be spent on, together with a CV of musical career/ experience, a copy of the recording on tape, CD or DVD (the quality does not have to be pristine, just as long as the music can be heard clearly ), website details and lyrics sheets, if relevant, to: Music Recording Assistance Award, Arts Office, Mayo County Council, Aras an Chontae, Castlebar, Mayo.

The drama award is €1,000 and is assessed by an independent expert selection board (appointed by Mayo County Council ), on the following criteria: Innovation; development of excellence; quality and creativity which improve the amateur drama sector in an area.

All amateur drama groups based in the county are eligible to apply for the award and application forms are available from: The Arts Office, Mayo County Council, Áras an Chontae, Castlebar, Mayo. The closing date for receipt of applications for both awards is Thursday, November 22 2012. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
