The 47th Annual Hollymount Road Races take place on Sunday, November 11. The race will also be the final leg of the Mayo AC's 2012 C&C Cellular Road League.
There will be a total of three races around the familiar testing 3k circuit. Many famous names in Irish athletics have done battle here over the years, and once again a top class field is expected from clubs around the province and further afield, as well as the traditional coachload from the Liverpool area. The race format has not changed much over the years, and is typical of many races around the country that originated in the sixties and seventies.
The first race is a u17 boys and girls 3k at 12 noon, with prizes for the first three boys and girls and for the best team. Entry costs €10. The second race is a women’s 3k event at 1.30pm, with prizes for the top three senior finishers and a prize for the best team, with three people scoring for the team event. Entry costs €15. The main event is the senior men’s 10k starting at 2pm. There will be prizes for the first 10 senior men and three men over 40 as well as team prizes, entry costs €15. Registration and changing facilities will be at the Community Centre from 12 noon and refreshments and prizegiving will take place from 3pm.
