A 32-year-old woman who collided into a pedestrian was convicted and fined €100 for driving without due care and attention.
At Ballina District Court on Tuesday it was outlined that on February 9 2012, on Newbrook Road, Ballina, Ann Marie Barrett, 56 St Patrick’s Estate, Ballina hit a pedestrian, who was crossing the road, as the defendant made a right turn into Dunnes Stores. The pedestrian’s ankle was broken from the accident.
The court heard that it was a wet day and visibility was poor. According to Barrett’s solicitor, John Gordon, as the defendant waited to make the right turn an oncoming car flashed her to cut across. Barrett did not see the pedestrian as she was wearing black and carrying an umbrella.
Barrett has no previous convictions.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined her €100.
