A 43-year-old Ballina man who was found in possession of cannabis and admitted that he supplied drugs to others was before Ballina District Court this week.
Detective Garda Sinead Caheny searched the home of John Lynn, 2 Ridgepool Village, Ballina, on January 25 2012. Six small bags of cannabis were found worth a total of €171.36. A tick list was also found. Lynn later called to the Garda station where he admitted that the drugs were his.
According to his solicitor John Gordon, Lynn ran a ‘Mickey Mouse’ operation. Det Caheny said that Lynn’s place was a hang out for younger people and he supplied drugs to these younger people. Det Caheny said that it was mostly 14-year-olds who called to his apartment. Mr Gordan said that Lynn tried to look out for people but might have been doing it in the wrong way.
Lynn, who has a drink problem, is estranged from his partner and is a father of one child, has no previous convictions.
Judge Mary Devins asked for a probation report which should consider the issue of young people calling to the apartment. The case was adjourned until January 26 2013.
