Clogher hosts successful Walk and Talk weekend

The Walk and Talk weekend organised by Clogher Environmental Group in conjunction with Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail and Sláinte Ireland Tours was a tremendous success.

The weekend’s events started with an information evening on Friday September 28 in the McWilliam Park Hotel, Claremorris. Speakers attending were Dave Langford - internationally renowned organic grower who spoke on the use of Irish seed potatoes as a sustainable answer to world poverty.

John Cunningham, Erne Tour, gave an interesting talk on the effects of the Famine. A surprise speaker on the evening was Éanna Ni Lamhna, Irish environmentalist, who gave an insight on the works of VITA in Ethiopia.

On Saturday, September 28, a group from Leeds Health and Homes was taken on a tour of the locality visiting Clogher Heritage Complex and Belcarra’s Eviction Cottage.

The weekend’s activities concluded with a fundraising walk from Clogher Community Centre to Ballintubber Abbey. Proceeds of this event were shared by VITA - a third world developement agency who supply Irish seed potatoes to Ethiopia and Leeds Irish Health and Homes - which organises respite holidays for elderly Irish emigrants in Leeds.
