Possession of drugs conviction for Ballina man

A back seat passenger who admitted that a bag of cannabis valued at €27 which was found during a Gardra search of the car was his property, was convicted and fined €250 at Ballina District Court.

Gardaí searched a car on January 3 2012 at Rathkip, Ballina. A cannabis grinder was recovered in the car as was a bag of cannabis. Stephen Cording, 19 Oaklawns, Killala Road, Ballina, initially said that the detective had planted the bag there, however he pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis.

Cording, who has no previous drug convictions, did not assist gardaí in relation to where he got the drugs.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him.
