Out and Proud roadshow coming to Mayo

To celebrate Social Inclusion Week 2012, an exciting and colourful roadshow will be coming to Mayo. The roadshow will be in Mayo on Tuesday October 16. The Out and Proud roadshow has been organised to raise awareness of the Family Resource Centres’ Western Region LGBT Network, which provides local supports to members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT ) community.

The Out and Proud bus will bring an abundance of information, music, and laughter to Mayo’s family resource centres.

Although life has improved for LGBT people in Ireland over the last decade, with equal status legislation and the Civil Partnership Bill, many LGBT people, especially in rural areas, still experience great isolation due to fear of discrimination, negative attitudes, and the lack of social and community outlets.

On Tuesday the Out and Proud roadshow will be in various towns in Mayo during the day including Ballinrobe from 9.30am to 10am, Westport from 10.30am to 11am, Castlebar from 11.30am to 12 noon, Ballina 1.30pm to 2pm, Ballyhaunis 3pm to 3.30pm, and Claremorris 4pm to 4.30pm.
