Two CCTV cameras will soon be installed in Westport as part of the town’s CCTV system.
At the town’s JPC meeting on Monday Councillor Myles Staunton welcomed the news that two are to be installed, which is “certainly a start”. Cllr Staunton said the location of the two cameras should not be given away, as if people know that CCTV is somewhere in the town, but do not know the precise location, this will act as another deterrent.
Cllr Christy Hyland asked whether sections of business community could engage in funding exercises if they want to help pay for more cameras in town. Town clerk Ann Moore said “we would be delighted to talk to them” if there is interest.
Superintendent Aiden Foley said that the cameras will be a huge help to gardaí.
