Josephine Cribbin has been synonymous with hairdressing training in the 21 years since she established the College of Hairdressing, Connaught, one of the first private hairdressing training colleges in the west of Ireland, that was dedicated to training alone.
The college started in an attic room in Shop Street, Galway, in 1991 with just three students. Through quality training and dedication to constant course updates in line with hairdressing trends, Ms Cribbin was able to move the growing business three years later to Kiltartan House in Forster Street, Galway, where they are still located.
Due to the demand for courses in the Mayo area, Josephine Cribbin opened a satellite centre in Castlebar five years ago, and is now delighted to announce the relocation of this centre to Unit 1, Moneen Industrial Estate, offering City & Guilds qualifications on a full and part-time basis.
Josephine Cribbin has worked alongside City & Guilds as an external verifier over the years with the sole intention of providing quality basic training as a foundation to a hairdressing career.
The college has adapted over the years in response to the changing needs of the hairdressing industry. As well as offering the City & Guilds internationally recognised NVQ diploma in hairdressing, the college has recently become a training provider for FETAC offering the Level 5 hairdressing training award.
This coveted award is on the National Framework of Qualifications and allows the College of Hairdressing Connaught to feature on the internationalisation register — a list of education programmes approved for students from outside the EU — for the first time. While the excellent reputation of the college has been known nationally for 21 years its presence on the internationalisation register has attracted students worldwide.
