Achill adventure hub proposal gaining momentum

A proposal to develop an adventure hub for Achill Sound is being progressed by Comhlaht Forbartha Áitiúil (CFÁA ) and includes plans for a tourism hub, a multi-purpose indoor training facility, a children’s play area, car park, retail outlet, café and audio visual facility.

The hub would provide necessary services to the residents of Achill, local businesses and tourists to the island.

CFÁA have been working in conjunction with Údaras na Gaeltachta, Mayo County Council and South West Mayo Development Company in furthering this proposal which will be situated across from the One Stop Shop in Achill Sound.

Mr Terence Dever, CEO of CFÁA said: “It’s a well established need in Achill at this stage for a centre that would provide services to both the residents of Achill, local businesses and tourists to the island. This has been attempted in the past through various guises, however it has been unsuccessful for various reasons. It’s now or never and the board of CFÁA are determined to deliver.”

Part of the proposed structure is to provide services to the Greenway, bicycle service facilities, shower facilities and be a base for a proposed green patrol.

Pat Kilbane, chairman of CFÁA said this is a long established desire of many in the parish and he looks forward to seeing this brought to fruition in tandem will all local and national stakeholders.
