Castlebar benefits from €1.4m BMW Regional Assembly grant

The fourth payment totalling €267,785 has been issued to Mayo County Council by the Border, Midland and Western (BMW ) Regional Assembly towards the Castlebar town centre regeneration project. This project has revitalised Castlebar through a programme of town centre regeneration and streetscape refurbishment. Also this grant has facilitated the development of a riverside walk developing Castlebar’s amenity corridor.

A total of €1.4m has been allocated to this project by the Regional Assembly, under a European Union co-financed European Regional Development Fund grant scheme which is targeted at the designated gateways and hub towns within the 13 county of the BMW Region. Within Mayo, Ballina also received similar levels of funding for the regeneration of Pearse Street along with the refurbishment of the former bank on Pearse Street to house the Jackie Clarke library and archives.

The director of the assembly Mr Gerry Finn said: “This strategic project is making a valuable contribution to the sustainable economic and social development of Castlebar and we congratulate all those involved in helping regenerate this increasing important economic centre for the west of Ireland.”
