Cleveland Hermit Club for Achill students

The itinerary for the Achill delegation travelling to Cleveland on October 10 has been finalised and will see a roller-coaster six days, the pinnacle of which will be the Annual Mayo Cleveland Ball attended by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD.

In the build-up to the ball the Achill delegation will be busy attending several receptions and one key event will be a performance with the conductor of the world renowned Cleveland Pops Orchestra in the Hermit Club, a private members club with a strong tradition of supporting the performing arts.

The Achill, Mayo and Irish American communities in Cleveland have worked for months in developing a range of experiences for the Achill students to include receptions in the West Side Irish American Club, The Observation Deck in Terminal Tower, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, City Club of Cleveland, John Carroll University, The Cleveland Clinic and trips to Crocker Park and the Ohio adventure hot spot Cedar Point.

Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla will be represented by chairman Pat Kilbane, CEO Terence Dever, Kenneth Deery, Bridgie Anne Davitt and Kate O’Malley, all of the Achill Cleveland twinning committee along with 11 students from Achill who participated in the Achill Cleveland Roots Festival in 2011. The visiting group from Achill will maintain a blog of their activities which will be published on the Mayo.ie website which will also promote Mayo.ie while in Ohio.
