Minding Yourself – information sessions for carers

The Carers Association will be hosting a series of talks during October in Ostán Óilean Acla, Achill, and Tourmakeady Hall. The focus of the evenings will be on stressing to carers the importance of looking after their own health. The series, entitled - Caring for Yourself: The Importance of Self-Care To Your Caring Role, will provide carers with information regarding their physical and mental health, guidance on looking after yourself while dealing with dementia, nutrition tips, keeping yourself informed on carers’ rights, entitlements, and changes to social policy that may affect carers.

The first set of talks will be held on October 8 and 9 with guest speakers Mary McHugh, MIAHIP, humanistic and integrative psychotherapist; and Frances Maloney, project manager for Community Action on Dementia-Mayo, Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

The second set of talks will be held on October 22 and 23 with guest speakers Paul O’Brien, personal trainer, life coach, and creative director of Bootcamp West; Clare Duffy, social policy manager, The Carers Association; and Eileen McNamara, outreach training and development officer, The Carers Association.

All sessions are scheduled from 6.45pm to 9.15pm. They are open to family carers throughout the county, as well as the general public, and are free of charge. Light refreshments will be served following the sessions. Contact [email protected] or 086 377 5702 for further information.

The Carers Association would like to thank South West Mayo Development Company for making these sessions possible.
