This evening in McHale Park a night of top class football promises to be in store with the county minor A and B finals down for decision in the county ground. The action will get under way at 7pm with the meeting of Carras and St Muradeach’s in the B final. The north Mayo amalgamation made their way into the final with a 1-10 to 0-9 win over Moy Davitts last weekend in Ballina. Darragh Burke was the man who got the only and vital goal of the game, with Ronan Neary kicking five points over the 60 minutes.
The other semi-final saw Carras pile on the scores as they disposed of Breaffy by 4-17 to 1-9. Darragh Doherty was the main man that evening finishing up with 1-12 to his name, more than the total Breaffy score. Carras’ early scoring burst saw them have the game more or less wrapped up at half time when they led by 3-7 to 0-6.
The A final promises to be real cracker, both Castlebar Mitchels and Aghamore have been producing quality underage teams over the past number of years and this evening’s contest could be a good on. Mitchels held off an early challenge from The Neale last weekend before running out comfortable 2-16 to 0-8 winners. It was the second half where Mitchels pulled away, with Cian Gibbons raising the green flag twice as Castlebar extended a three point half time lead to a 14 point lead at the final whistle.
Aghamore booked their place in the final with a seven point win over Knockmore. In the process the east Mayo men scored three goals to hold off the north Mayo men’s challenge. The goals from Michael Owen Kilduff and a brace from Darren Duffy were vital in win, while Fergal Boland kicked four points from play too over the hour. The B final throws in at 7pm and the A final at 8.30pm in McHale Park tonight.
