A threatened strike by Mayo County Council’s outdoor staff which could have had a serious impact on the provision of services in the county has been called off, pending a Labour Court hearing.
Local Fianna Fáil councillor and member of the council’s outdoor staff Blackie Gavin, had raised the issue at last week’s council meeting calling on the county manager Peter Hynes to sort out the problem of allowances being withdrawn from staff.
The strike was due to commence on Monday but was suspended. The issue, which was discussed at a Labour Relations conciliation conference last week, has been referred to the Labour Court. A decision is expected in the coming weeks.
