Father Ted star opens permanent exhibition of his art in Westport

Celebrated artist Kevin Sharkey has opened a permanent display of his distinctive paintings in Westport. The former TV star of music and chat shows and of Farther Ted fame fame, has chosen the brand new AMO Gallery in Westport's High Street as the permanent venue for his work in Ireland.

Kevin, whose painting Roisin recently fetched a record €26,100 on RTE's Telethon, has been described as: “Truly gifted” - Sunday Independent, “One of Ireland's most collectable artists” - Social & Personal, “One of Ireland's most gifted and thought-provoking abstract painters” - The Irish World and a “bankable artist - The Sunday Times. The legendary artist, whose work hangs in the homes of Enya, Sinead O' Connor, Bob Geldof and Sarah-Jessica Parker, has had a series of hugely successful one-day Christmas exhibitions in Westport's Plaza Hotel over the last five years and has now decided to make the town his main base for exhibiting from.

Kevin recently said: "I've always loved Mayo and the people here really seem to get my work which is hugely satisfying! I'm delighted to have Westport become the main 'port of call' for for my work" AMO Gallery is a bright, stylish and elegant new gallery, which apart from Kevin's sought-after paintings also has a range of stunning silk scarves and unique men's silk ties designed by Kevin. The gallery has two floors with the artist's new Endless Skies collection of seductively tranquil sky paintings on the ground floor and a more familiar selection of Sharkey's colourful, energetic paintings on the upper floor.
