The Relay for Life Castlebar committee invite you to go along, support, and join in the fun at their 24-hour team relay which takes place this Saturday at the TF Royal Hotel and Theatre.
Relay for Life is an overnight community celebration which honours current and former cancer patients, their families, and friends. Teams of friends, neighbours, families, and colleagues get together in groups of 15 to 20 people to take part in the event. All funds raised through sponsorship will go to the Irish Cancer Society to support their work in eliminating cancer as a major health problem and in improving the lives of those living with cancer.
Relay for Life Castlebar is taking place on Saturday September 15 at 5pm until Sunday September 16 at 5pm, at The TF Royal Theatre, Castlebar. Because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the 24-hour event. Otherwise team members are free to socialise, picnic, play games, enjoy 24 hour live entertainment, and participate in lots of fun activities. Everybody in the community is invited to go along and experience this inspiring event of celebration and commemoration.
The Survivors’ Lap is an inspirational start to the event where cancer survivors of all ages are invited to begin the relay by walking the first lap of the course at 5pm, cheered on by family, friends, and teams from the community.
The Candle of Hope ceremony takes place later in the evening at approximately 9.30pm. Before the event everyone in the community is invited to dedicate a candle of hope to someone they know who has been touched by cancer. As the evening approaches, the candles are set around the track and lit by participants. It is during this time that the true meaning of relay really hits home.
