Gardaí are working to combat underage drinking in Mayo with both overt and covert operations on an ongoing basis.
However, young people are still being served alcohol, according to Superintendent Pat Diskin.
The gardaí have had some successful detections in this area and operations are ongoing, a meeting of the Mayo Joint Policing Committee was told on Monday.
However, one of the problems facing gardaí is that when they detect young people drinking and bring them home, their parents are often not there. According to the superintendent there needs to be co-operation from all parties involved if their operations are to continue to be successful.
