Gavin hopes outdoor staff will not have to strike

Fianna Fáil councillor Blackie Gavin this week said that he hoped the outdoor staff of Mayo County Council would not have to take industrial action next Monday.

Cllr Gavin, who is himself a member of the council’s outdoor staff, told Monday’s meeting of the council: “This day week, the outdoor staff will be on strike. Then you’ll see the real value of the work that they do. They are only looking for what they are entitled to. I really hope that this strike doesn’t come off, because there is a lot of great work that won’t be done Monday. I’m calling on the manager to sort this issue out once and for all.”

County manager Peter Hynes replied by telling the meeting that he could not speak about the matter as it was the subject of a Labour Relations Commission (LRC ) this week.
