Cooking Workshop: Traditional Christmas Fare

On Sunday December 7 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Join Jean Beattie to learn how to prepare goose stuffing and much more for a traditional Christmas meal.

Mummer’s Masks

On Tuesday December 16 from 2pm to 3pm. The Mummers were a group of people who traditionally performed an intricate play with varied characters around Christmas time. Join Ted Kelly to make a Mummer’s Mask.

Carol singing

On Friday December 19 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, enjoy traditional Christmas carols with the Foxford National School Band.

Christmas food fair and open day

On Start Saturday December 13 from 11am to 5pm. Start the Christmas season in style with your family this year at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life. Supported by Mayo County Enterprise Board.

Yuletide treats, including:

Christmas Food Fair - traditional festive fare from a variety of food producers from around the region.

Christmas Exhibition: Santa Claus and his magic elves from 12pm to 1.30pm and 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Cost €2 per child. Tickets available from the museum from 11am.

Christmas Carols: With Mayo Male Voice Choir and Gospel Singers. Face painting, free gift wrapping in the Museum Shop. Museum Café open.

Planet Earth: Our Place in Space.

Based on the geological collections of the National Museum of Ireland Natural History, this exhibition includes a collection of meteorites, many of which fell in Ireland, that tell us more about the origins of our planet. A highlight is the Limerick Meteorite that fell near Adare, County Limerick in 1813, Ireland's largest ever meteorite weighing in at 27 kilos. The exhibition will also feature some of the folk traditions associated with the moon and the stars. Running until Spring 2009.

Museum opening hours

Tuesday to Saturday: 10am to 5pm; Sunday: 2pm to 5pm. Closed Mondays (including bank holidays ).
