A takeaway delivery driver who was caught driving without insurance for a second time was disqualified from driving for two years in Ballyhaunis District Court this week.
Garda James Mangan told the court that on April 7, 2012 at 10.26am on Main Street, Ballyhaunis, he stopped a car being driven by Adeel Husan, of 5 Woodview Park, Ballaghaderreen, and asked him to produce his driving licence and insurance. Husan opted to produce at Ballyhaunis District Court, while he had a licence it turned out that he did not have any insurance cover at the time.
The court was told that Husan is a 21-year-old single man who was working as a delivery driver for a takeaway restaurant in Ballyhaunis, and he had just bought the car he was driving from his employer to carry out his work. He thought that he was covered by his employer’s insurance, but it transpired that he was not. Once this became clear he was added by his employer on his insurance policy and was put as a named driver on his father’s policy. The court was also told that Husan had a previous conviction for having no insurance in 2010. Judge Mary Devins told the court she had no option but to impose a driving ban on Husan as it was his second conviction for having no insurance, she convicted and fined him €50 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
