A woman with 98 previous convictions was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday for three charges—theft, for being threatening and abusive, and for forging a prescription—all which occurred on November 27 2011.
Garda Declan Glynn received a report of a theft from Shaws, Castlebar, at 1.10pm. Teresa McDonagh, 12 Grosvenor Square, Rathmines, Dublin 6, had taken a €45 top into the changing rooms and then the item disappeared; the top was not recovered.
On the same day the defendant went to Boots, Castlebar, where she was threatening and abusive to a pharmacist and obtained her medication through fraudulently changing an old prescription date. The pharmacist noticed this after the defendant had left and contacted the doctor who had prescribed the medication. The doctor confirmed that the date had been changed by the defendant.
The defendant does not remember the day in question due to her then drug addiction.
McDonagh is currently serving a prison sentence in Dochas, where she has received treatment for her drug addiction.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and sentenced McDonagh to three months in prison for the forged or fraudulently altered prescription under section 18 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, to run concurrently with the prison sentence which she is serving since May. The judge also convicted and sentenced her three months concurrent for the section four theft. The section six; being threatening and abusive, was taken into consideration.
