Ten thousand people are expected to flock to Knock on Sunday September 9 for the sixth annual National Grandparents’ Pilgrimage.
The event is organised by the Catholic Grandparents Association, whose founder Catherine Wiley will also offer a reflection during the ceremony. Ms Wiley says, “2012 has been a great year for our association. We were asked to speak at the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin, and at the World Family Congress in Milan. To me, that showed that people are really starting to recognise the importance of grandparents in our society. The age of the grandparents has come.”
A grandmother of 10 from County Mayo, Ms Wiley said she was “overwhelmed by the extraordinary international interest in the CGA at Dublin and Milan. Since then new branches have sprung up in the Philippines, Australia, and in the United States.”
Ceremonies on Sunday begin at 2.30pm with the annotating of the sick and rosary, followed by a procession and Mass at 3pm. All are welcome.
