Holmes wants special meeting to be about solutions, not politics

Independent councillor Michael Holmes has questioned what will be the outcome of the special meeting of Mayo County Council that will take place this coming Monday. The meeting was called by Cathaoirleach Cllr Cyril Burke at the request of seven Fianna Fail councillors to discuss the withholding of the money from the council because of the underpayment of the household charge in the county.

At this week’s Belmullet Electoral Area Committee meeting Cllr Holmes said: “While what the Minister is doing is pure bullyboy tactics in relation to this charge, we don’t know what will be the outcome of this meeting. We are having a special meeting, but what is it about? Is it about dealing with the issues and fighting the Minister or is it about politics? But this meeting will only work if every Fine Gael councillor is behind it, otherwise it’s no good.”
