With the Super League done and dusted for a while now, the race to make it into the top division next season is where all eyes will be this Sunday. With three games to go Conn Rangers are top on 24 points, with Ballyheane and Snugboro right behind them on 23 points. This weekend Conn Rangers will host Bangor Hibs in Mount Falcon, but in their final two games they will have to face both of the sides right behind them. They will have to travel to Quigley Park to face Ballyheane in their second last game, with Snugboro United coming to their patch on the final day.
This weekend’s action should not see much change in the standings with Conn Rangers probably having more than enough to see off Bangor Hibs. Ballyheane will travel to bottom of the table Swinford, and Snugboro United take on a second bottom of the table Clew Bay United.
In the Super League the battle at the bottom is among three sides trying to avoid the bottom two places. Currently Manulla are sitting third from the bottom, three points in front of Fahy Rovers, with Straide and Foxford United stuck to the bottom on five points. On Saturday evening Manulla will host Fahy Rovers in a game that would see Fahy Rovers pull level on points with Manulla if they are able to pull a win from the game. With Westport United already confirmed as the champions, the race for second is still be decided and on Saturday evening whoever comes out on top of the clash between Ballina Town and Castlebar Celtic in Belleek Park will have a distinct advantage going into the final couple of games. Celtic currently hold a one point lead over Ballina Town in the table.
Domestic season winding down over the next few weeks
The Mayo League are on course to have all internal competitions wrapped up by October 14 according to the league this week. This weekend sees a full round of fixtures across all divisions, with the weekend of September 16 down for the first round of the FAI Junior Cup, the following weekend the first round of the Connacht Cup. The weekend of September 30 will be round 13 in the Super League, Premier A, Premier B, and League One, and round 17 in League Two. The following weekend of October 7 will be the final round for all divisions. The domestic season, bar any play offs, will come to a close on October 14 with the Connacht Gold Cup and Shield finals.
