O’Mahony accuses Flynn of failing Mayo schools

Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has highlighted the effect of Government budgetary cutbacks on schools in the county before the Oireachtas Education and Science Committee.

Hundreds of children will be affected as the cuts hit various Mayo schools, outlined Deputy O’Mahony, who listed some of the schools to be affected as Bonniconlon NS, Attymass NS, Rehins NS (Knockmore ), Crossmolina NS, Carn NS, Breaffy NS, Craggah NS, Balla NS, Killawalla NS, Inver NS and Midfield NS.

“Fianna Fáil TD Beverley Flynn had vowed to raise the matter, as she is a member of the Oireachtas Education and Science Committee. But during yesterday’s committee, during which the Minister was present for two and a half hours, Deputy Flynn only stayed for few minutes and made no contribution,” said Dep O’Mahony.

“Deputy Flynn has broken her promise to the parents and teachers. In the meantime, the children attending Mayo schools will be affected by larger class sizes, on top of the lack of investment which is already evident in many cases,” he concluded.
