A delegation from County Mayo, led by the Cathaoirleach Councillor Joe Mellett, met with the Minister for the Environment John Gormley in Dáil Éireann recently.
The meeting was primarily set up to discuss the delivery of a sewerage system to Belmullet town but the proposed Achill scheme was also discussed, as was the Kiltimagh sewerage scheme. Deputy John O’Mahony, Michael Ring, Beverley Flynn and Dara Calleary also attended the meeting. Vital aspects of the Kiltimagh scheme were discussed at length and the cathaoirleach is confident that the delivery of the scheme is imminent. The news has been welcomed by local Cllr Eugene Lavin who has been pursuing the issue for some time.
