The Piston Slappers are rocking their way to Castlebar

Get ready for a great evening of music when Westport’s own Derek Mc Gowan and The Piston Slappers do their blues rock thing at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday, September 6, at 8pm.

Derek Mc Gowan has been playing acoustic guitar since the age of 12 and is an accomplished player and lyricist. He has been on the same bill with many noted acts, both in Ireland and America, including Freddie White, Jimmy McCarthy, Nancy Griffith, and John Hiatt. The Piston Slappers, formed in 1993, comprising Derek McGowan (lead guitar, vocals ), Josie Joyce (drums ), Dee Moore (bass guitar, vocals ) and Patrick Early (electric fiddle, vocals ), take blues rock to a new level as they deliver music up there with the best of blues acts in Ireland. The fact that much of their fan base is made up of fellow musicians is testimony to the high standard of their music, a heady brand of blues rock with influences from Rory Gallagher to Steely Dan, as well as their own distinctive compositions, all played with a style that is instantly recognisable. Get ready to get down.
